Second Future Forests Fellow Launches Research on Fire and Communities
PhD student Sarah Dickson-Hoyle is the second recipient of the Future Forests Fellowship, the largest award in the world for an incoming doctoral student in forestry. The Future Forests Fellowship is made possible by a private Canadian foundation, which created it to draw attention to how forestry research impacts global issues. It is awarded to a student whose intended studies fit within one of the Faculty’s areas of excellence and who is starting their first doctoral degree.


Foundation Gift Supports Wildfire Research
The Intact Foundation will support valuable research into wildfire prevention and management, and climate change adaptation in British Columbia with a gift of $250,000 over three years. Led by Dr. Lori Daniels, the research project is in collaboration with the St’uxwtéws (Bonaparte) Band and the Rocky Mountain Trench Ecosystem Restoration Society.


2017 Donor Recognition Evening
On Thursday, March 9, 2017, the UBC Faculty of Forestry was delighted to host a ‘Donor Recognition Evening’ to honour and thank our generous donors and celebrate the 2016 student award recipients. Guests mingled in the Atrium of the Forest Sciences Centre for a cocktail reception, with speeches from Dean John Innes; and two award recipients representing the graduate and undergraduate students.

Students, researchers and designers at the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) can develop innovating and advanced wood components for building and industrial design, thanks to the new Hundegger Robot Drive.
